Winter boots the Lundhags way: rubber lower, leather upper, with 3 mm wool insulation inside.
Lundhags’ “shell boots” are made by combining a lower part crafted from the Certech special rubber compound with a leather upper. This men’s and women’s winter model, the Forest Insulation Boot, has a wool felt liner inside that is easy to pull to dry nicely overnight, so you’re ready to face another day in the cold.
Since the construction has no delicate waterproof membrane, Lundhags boots tend to have a very long service life.
The Forest Insulated Boot also differs from three season hiking boots in its outsole: the Polar Grip rubber compound is made to grip on snow, whereas the soles of three season boots often harden in the cold and turn incredibly slippery.
The Forest Insulated Boot is best for use in frosty conditions, while you keep moving, or in milder conditions when staying still. The insulation is lighter than, for instance, in boots made for ice fishing.
- A moderately wide fit, perfect for the Nordic foot shape
- In addition to the wool inner boot, the tongue and insole have felt insulation
- The lower part is 3.5 mm thick Certech rubber compound
- The upper is 2.0 mm thick oiled nubuck leather, made by Heinen, Terracare type
- 3 mm wool inner shoe
- Polar Grip Islanding outsole
- Heel Fit Control (HFC) design prevents the heel from lifting
- Made in Portugal
Lundhags boots are built to last, but they’re also built so they can be repaired when needed.
Caring for Lundhags shell boots:
Clean loose dirt off the boots regularly and dry them at room temperature - also take the insoles out to dry after use. Treat the uppers with wax or grease to make them water-repellent when you notice the leather needs care. Don’t do this to new boots – the first time is after about 100 km of use (depending on conditions). Don’t wax or grease “just in case” / too often, so the seams don’t stay wet and so the leather doesn’t start to “sag” / lose its natural properties (as the warranty cobbler puts it). Don’t treat the waterproof lower part with any product, cleaning is enough. Replace the insoles and laces when needed.
